ALPINE, TX -- A cargo plane crashed in Alpine after hitting a telephone pole and power line around 6 p.m. on Monday evening. The aircraft was operated by Dallas-based Martinaire. The company operates the single-engine Cessna CE-208B Super Cargomaster exclusively.
A preliminary investigation by Brewster County Sheriff's Office showed the cargo plane was traveling to Midland, however, it had to turn around after experiencing issues.
When the plane tried to land, it hit a telephone pole and power line, causing the crash. The site of the crash is near highway 118, north of Alpine.
The sheriff said local employees saw the accident and rushed to help.
The pilot was able to walk away from the crash, however, he was taken to the hospital for a check-up.
The plane caught fire as a result of the crash and was unsalvageable. The plane was thought to be carrying UPS packages.
