Two Cars Collide In Front of Post Office, One Sent to Hospital

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS -- At around 11a.m. this morning, two vehicles collided at the crossing of South Abe and Harris street.

Two lanes have been closed down on the southbound side of Abe street for San Angelo Police Department (SAPD) officers to investigate the crash.

At this time, LIVE's on scene reporter has advised that one person has been taken to the hospital via ambulance for unknown injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation, and LIVE! will update when more information becomes available.

Update: 11:40 a.m.

Shortly after 11 a.m. today, SAPD Officer Bryan Bylsma  was dispatched to a major motor vehicle accident at the crossing of S. Abe and Harris Street. Upon arrival, Officer Bylsma stated that he had learned of two vehicles being involved, a 1995 Dodge Ram and a 2014 Nissan Sentra.

The Dodge pick up was occupied by two people, and the Nissan by one.

Officer Bylsma advised that the driver of the Nissan was "transported to Shannon for injuries, [but] as of right now, i'm not sure exactly what the injuries are."

Further investigation has revealed that the dodge pickup was stopped at a red light headed southbound in the second lane on Abe Street. However, "for whatever reason the [Dodge ram] entered the intersection" when the Sentra, traveling west bound, "entered the intersection and ended up colliding with the pickup."

"The driver of the pick up was given a citation for disregarding a red light and the female driver of the Nissan will more than likely be issued a citation for no insurance," said Officer Bylsma

The two lanes initially closed will remain closed until officers can clear the scene.

Once again, we have not one but TWO major thoroughfares in our fine city blocked and traffic disrupted and the NIXLE SYSTEM was not employed warn both citizens and other emergency response entities of potential delays!!!
...and we're supposed to trust "someone" to use NIXLE to warn our populous of impending threatening weather systems, tornadoes and other "doom and gloom"?!?!?!?

The protocol for using the NIXLE SYSTEM is BROKEN.... Who in the press is going to sound the alarm???

I keep reading about more and more traffic accidents. I am wondering if our accident rate is climbing or if accidents are just getting reported on more? Anyone know?
