Pit Bull Attack Leaves 9-Year-Old In Critical Condition

ECTOR COUNTY, TX – A nine-year-old boy has been seriously injured after two pit bulls attacked him Tuesday afternoon. The Ector County Sheriffs' officer responded to a 9-1-1 call and subsequently euthanized the two pit bulls.

According to a local news source, the young boy received extensive injuries and was airlifted to a Lubbock hospital for further treatment. Latest reports indicate he is in serious condition.

"He's got extensive injuries on both arms," Sheriff Mike Griffis said, "I can honestly say I've never seen injuries like this to a child, ever in my life."

When the deputy arrived on scene to answer the call he discharged his weapon after the dog charged at him, but the dogs were put down after they were taken into custody and tested for rabies. As the investigation continued another dog was put down and the third was returned to the owner after they realized he had had no involvement in the accident.

The investigation is currently ongoing and the sheriff’s office urges dog owners to be responsible for their pets and to keep them fenced away. No charges have been filed at this time.

"The owner is absolutely responsible," Griffis said, "It is their responsibility to take care of these dogs, keep these dogs in the fence, in the house, away from the public at large."

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at approximately 4:45 p.m.

The breed of the animal is irrelevant; the ignorant people that don't understand animals or the pathetic humans that don't raise them properly, are to blame. They're just like children, your kids graffiti buildings and "tag" everything in sight.....you're a joke of a parent! Your dog attacks another dog or worse a child.....you're a pathetic pet owner.

I know people love to say how sweet pit bulls are, but statistics don't lie. They are considered the deadliest breed for a documented reason, not just to pick on them. I think what makes it worse are the people who have pit bulls just because it's the cool thing to do.

Each year only 23 kids are maimed / killed by pitbulls. Are we not too quick to jump on conclusions in branding the entire breed as dangerous? Why can't we be more generous? What's a couple of kids here and there? There are too many of them already.
