Wanted San Angelo Man Arrested for Stolen Firearms and Meth

SAN ANGELO, TX - Yesterday afternoon, San Angelo Police arrested 33-year-old Daniel "Danny" Lopez on an outstanding warrant. During a traffic stop, officers found Lopez in possession of stolen firearms and methamphetamine.

SAPD Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez said, at approximately 3:15 p.m., officers conducted the traffic stop on Lopez, who was driving a 2005 Maroon Lincoln Navigator near the intersection of Edmund Boulevard and N. Van Buren Street.

"Upon approach of the vehicle, the officer recognized [Lopez], who was known to the officer as having an outstanding parole warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon," said Gonzalez. "Lopez was immediately detained and subsequently arrested upon confirmation of the warrant."

Gonzalez added that during a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded firearm underneath the driver’s seat.  Through a records search, the firearm was confirmed to be stolen.

"Pursuant to the field investigation, detectives with the Department’s Street Crimes Division developed probable cause to apply for and obtain a search warrant for Lopez’s residence," said Gonzalez.

The warrant, issued by District Judge Jay Weatherby, was executed at a residence in the 2000 block of Field Street.

Gonzalez stated, "During the search, investigators located and seized a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, approximately $5,500.00 in U.S. currency, two Kevlar vests, an abundance of ammunition and gun cases, and eight  firearms. Three of the firearms were confirmed stolen."

Members of the Department’s Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, and K-9 Unit assisted with the operation.

Lopez was transported to Tom Green County Jail without incident following the traffic stop and booked for his outstanding Parole Warrant. Additional charges are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

Thank you police for keeping us safe. Can we please hire more cops? I see crimes happen each day. There really aren't enough cops in San Angelo. Maybe it's because nobody admits we have 100,000+ population. Maybe when the new census goes through, the city will have to hire a hundred or so more? Every work day I see folks speed through school zones. I have seen cholos ride up at 2 am in masks with windows down waving guns, I have seen guys trying to break into houses with crowbars and when I drive by, they run away, I've found used needles in the streets and rubber band straps, I've seen so many incidents of road rage that have almost caused accidents, I see drunk drivers drifting in my lane. Thanks to all the hard working cops out there, your job isn't easy, I just think we need more cops. Get some accountability in this city. Also get more investigators involved in auditing every city counsel's bank account and finally prove the bribes from the trash company, and other businesses. They fire the water manager a few years back for curruption and stealing money, but he wasn't the only one guilty in this city. FBI, where are you? ASU journalism majors, where are you? This is 2017... We have technology... One day, everything will be revealed.
