SAN ANGELO, TX — The Temptations will have a local band open for them when the group performs in San Angelo on May 4 at 7 p.m.
Funky Munky, a long-time popular local dance band is slated to open, Tammy Merwin, lead singer announced in a Facebook Live broadcast Thursday night. Her boyfriend and former San Angelo Police Chief Tim Vasquez plays the drums for the nine-piece band. Other members include:

- Ezra Ramirez

- Byron Ephran
- Tim Vasquez
- Roy Rodriguez, sound
According to Merwin, 1,800 tickets already sold. Less than 800 general admission tickets are left.
Josh Haynes, the promoter and owner of West Texas Concerts, said the decision to include the local band came after the Temptations saw a video of Funky Munky after returning for a tour of Australia. Haynes was eying the idea of incorporating local talent into his show, and Funky Munky’s sound mixes well with The Temptations.

“This is a once in a lifetime event for the city of San Angelo,” Vasquez said. “The Temptations have had a big impact on the genre of music that we play,” Merwin added.
The Funky Munky Band plays Motown, Disco, R&B, Funk, and Top 40. “I’ve played ‘My Girl’ since I started playing the drums,” Vasquez said.
The Temptations are Grammy-winning music icons. They perform timeless classic hits like "My Girl", "Just My Imagination", "The Way You Do The Things You Do", "Poppa Was A Rolling Stone", "Ain't to Proud To Beg", "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep", "Since I Lost My Baby." The group was inducted into the Music Hall of Fame in 1999.

Otis Williams is still with the group and has been since 1960.
Jim Bass Ford is underwriting a portion of the cost of the show as its Platinum Sponsor. The Courtyard by Marriott is the hotel sponsor.
