Sonora Principal and Ozona Superintendent Charged with DWI and Public Intoxication

SCHLEICHER COUNTY – This apparently is the month for local school administrators to have run-ins with the law as a result of alcohol. In addition to Christopher Morrow, the principal of TLCA in San Angelo, the current principal of Sonora Middle School and the superintendent of schools for Crockett County Consolidated Common School District in Ozona were arrested this past Friday for Driving While Intoxicated and Public Intoxication respectively. Both were also charged with Open Container.

According to Eldorado Success news, Schleicher County Deputy Kevin Herbert reported that he initiated a traffic stop at around 10 p.m. Friday evening after noticing a 2015 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Brandon Blayne Duncan, 41, driving slowly on the southbound shoulder of U.S. Highway 277, several miles north of Eldorado.

Herbert added that he administered a field sobriety test on Duncan and had him taken to Schleicher County Medical Center for a blood-alcohol test as well. Results of the test are still pending. The news source also reported that the two occupants of the vehicle were then transported to the Schleicher County Jail.

Duncan, principal of Sonora Middle School, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Open Container. He was released on a $1,500 surety bond the following day. Justice of the Peace Phil Edmiston wrote the surety bond.

The second occupant of the vehicle, 51-year-old Raul Ramos Chavarria, was charged with Public Intoxication and having an Open Container in a motor vehicle. Herbert noted that Chavarria claimed that he was unaware of Texas’ law on open container of alcohol. He was released the following day on a misdemeanor citation.

Chavarria, prior to working as the superintendent for CCCD, was the principal of Sonora High School.

When will people face the fact that west Texas is the land of alcoholism? San Angelo, for being such a small town had over 80 bars a couple of years ago... likely way more now. West Texans love alcohol with breakfast, lunch, dinner, or no food at all. At what point to these principles realize they have a problem? Hopefully they get prosecuted, unlike most folks I know here with DWIs. If they get prosecuted, lose their job, their families leave them, who know what else, then they may hit rock bottom and change. This could be the best thing that ever happened to them, other than them finding Jesus. It's never too late and you're never too far gone.

For someone to ATTEMPT to act like a Christian, that was very harsh, hate filled, and judgmental. Maybe you should talk to your father/husband about your real issues.
