19-Year-Old Woman Involved in Aggravated Kidnapping Requests Lower Bond

SAN ANGELO, TX- This morning in the 391st Judicial District Court, Judge Tom Gossett presided over a bond hearing for 19-year-old Taryn Espinosa.

Espinosa was involved in an aggravated kidnapping in July of this year, as well as knowingly possessing, with intent to deliver, methamphetamine. A previous story about Espinosa can be found here.

Gossett said, “This is a hearing for an amended motion to reduce bond.”

To persuade the judge, Defense Attorney Todd Simons called upon Espinosa’s father to testify as a witness on her behalf. Richard Espinosa explained that raising money for Taryn has been difficult.

Richard explained that the bail bondsmen won’t accept anything less than $5,000. With no assets to his name, Mr. Espinoza also said he would only be able to raise around $1,500 for his daughter’s bond.

Including her kidnapping and distribution charge, Taryn has been arrested in Tom Green County five times.

Knowing her past, Simons asked her father, “What would be different this time?”

He explained that his daughter will live with him and family will help supervise her. He added that Miss Espinosa will not disobey her bond release, and “[Taryn] wants to get into treatment. She knows she has a problem.”

Ending his testimony, Richard Espinosa said, “Being young and going on six months in [jail], I know she has learned her lesson. I have talked to her about it.”

Mr. Espinosa stepped down from the stand and the Defense and State gave their final testimony. The State explained that Taryn’s bond is high for the safety of the community, and as a result of her five felonies and three misdemeanors.

After hearing both sides, Judge Gossett denied to lower Taryn’s bond. He said, “I believe this bond is set at a reasonable price.”

Taryn’s bond for aggravated kidnapping is set at $25,000 and her drug charge bond is set at $30,000.

Well gee-whiz Judge Gossett, I'm certain she's about fed up with being locked up and treated like a common criminal.... She's got drugs out there in the free world that needs smoking and good hard working people out there to victimize...... I can't believe someone won't hear her pleas and understand that this being locked up business is severely curtailing everything she knows how to do best...........
