One Seriously Injured After Unlicensed, Uninsured Driver Barrels Through Red Light

SAN ANGELO, TX — An unlicensed and uninsured driver of a 2005 Ford Excursion ran a red light on S. Bryant causing a major motor vehicle crash, which landed one person in the van he collided with in the hospital.

According to San Angelo Police Traffic Investigator Brian Bylsma, the 2005 Excursion was traveling southbound. Witnesses at the scene told him the Excursion driver ran the red light at the intersection of Ave. Q/Knickerbocker Rd. The Ford rammed into a Chevrolet Uplander minivan with a driver and three passengers.

San Angelo Fire Department rescue personnel had to forcibly pry the passenger side door open to rescue the front seat passenger. That passenger was transported to Shannon Medical Center, and his or her condition is unknown, Bylsma said. The passenger was immediately loaded on a gurney after being freed from the wrecked Uplander.

Bylsma said the Excursion driver was cited for running a red light, no proof of insurance, and driving with an invalid license.
