SAPD Identify Drivers in Fatal Crash on US 87 North

SAN ANGELO, TX - This afternoon, the San Angelo Police announced that they have identified the two drivers killed in the fatal crash that occurred yesterday afternoon near the city limits on U.S. Highway 87 North.

Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD, said the driver of the 2004 GMC Yukon was identified as 42-year-old Stacy Ann Manitzas of San Angelo, and the driver of the F-150 pickup was 61-year-old Bobby Jack Hoffman of Ballinger, Texas.

"Investigators determined that Manitzas was traveling southbound in the northbound lane at a high rate of speed when she collided head-on with a 2012 Ford F150 Pickup driven by [Hoffman]," said Gonzalez. "Both drivers were pronounced deceased on impact by Justice of the Peace, Judge Eddie Howard. Next of kin has been notified."

Gonzalez added that during the investigation, police spoke with several witnesses who said they observed the Yukon speeding south in the northbound lane towards San Angelo from Grape Creek. One witness told police the Yukon intentionally veered towards him but he was able to avoid a collision when he veered right, which caused his vehicle to collide with a nearby guardrail. 

Another witness reported the Yukon intentionally swerved towards her vehicle and she drove off the highway to avoid a collision.    

Tom Green County Sheriff officials later advised San Angelo Police Officers the Yukon was involved in several other minor crashes out in the county prior to the fatal crash and numerous 9-1-1 calls were received reporting the Yukon’s erratic driving.
