A motorcyclist went to Shannon Medical Center this afternoon after colliding with a 2002 Toyota Avalon.
San Angelo Police Officer Brian Bylsma said he was dispatched to a major crash involving a motorcycle near a parking lot off of the access road between The Home Depot and Olive Garden.
Bylsma said the area appears to be private property, so it’s a private property crash with injuries.
In regards to the crash, a woman driving the Avalon was exiting the Olive Garden parking lot. She claimed she looked both ways, but didn’t see the motorcycle pull out.
“She was trying to go to The Home Depot,” said Bylsma. “As she got out into the right lane, she heard a loud thump.”
When she looked back, the driver realized she had crashed with the motorcycle.
The driver of the motorcycle said he was heading eastbound through the parking lot, and saw the Toyota coming up to the intersection. He said the driver looked “kind of confused” as to where she was going. Bylsma said the motorcyclist tried to brake, but the Toyota pulled out in front of him and they collided.
“The front tire hit the passenger side front door,” said Bylsma.
Bylsma noted that the driver of the motorcycle was complaining of lower back pain, so he was transported to Shannon.

There should be a mandatory 5 year jail sentence for a first time offense for the driver of a vehicle who is at fault and causes a collision with a motorcyclist.... Put a few people in jail and drivers might just become a little more attentive when they strap themselves to a 3000 lb weapon.........
