In addition to another arrest this week, two of the main suspects in the Zane Lopez and Juan Guerrero murders, Erick Ramos, 18, and Gilberto Salvador Reyes, 18, learned the District Attorney's Office will not seek the death penalty.
On July 27, 51st District Attorney Allison Palmer filed the State's Notice of Intent to Waive the Death Penalty to the Tom Green County Court.
There are currently two capital murder cases where the death penalty is being sought, and this is in the case of Isidro Delacruz, accused of murdering 5-year-old Naiya Villegas, and in the cases of Elisa Victoria Lasoya, 29, Fernando Lavaris, 29, and Jonathan Marin, 27, who are accused of murdering 69-year-old William Valdez.

Any person (THING) that slits the throat of a five year old deserves to die. I knew all 3 and the impact of something like this is crazy. This person should be put to death. Our DA should fight for the death penalty. There was a restraining order put on him when he was originally arrested for hitting her. Then he breaks in right after being released and kills a 5 year old by slitting her throat. Well actually I will pay with my tax dollars for him to get raped and beaten every day

PermalinkWhy don't they get death? In both cases they gave the death penalty to the victims without a thought. that little girl did nothing to be killed for.

PermalinkWhat is the reason DA Palmer is not seeking the death penalty? It seems as if the article is saying there are already 2 Capital Murder cases where the death penalty is being sought.....so what, is there a limit? Or is it because of the cost involved in trying a Capital Murder case?

PermalinkThey are guilty of murder since they participated in the crime. But, according to the story, they didn't pull the trigger. That might explain not wanting to seek the death penalty. By not seeking the death penalty it is more likely the DA can obtain a plea bargain with a substantial sentence. And, if they go to trial it would be easier to get a longer sentence if the death penalty is not there. Besides it costs less to incarcerate a life sentence than to hold one on death row. Death sentences tie up the system and cost money.

PermalinkYour answer to my questions sounds reasonable. Our Criminal Justice System is so messed up, unjust, and down right stupid you never know what they've got up their sleeve. I'm hoping they don't take the easy/cheap way out and go for a plea instead of a jury trial and let the jury decide quilt and punishment. Thanks again.
