Townsquare Media started airing its new radio station, i98.7, on May 11, 2016. This new station provides today’s best music with dedication to creating a unique music log every day.
Boomer Kingston, director of operations at Townsquare Media, gave his insight into what the new station offers San Angelo listeners.
“We play today's best music from many artists, and invest lots of time and effort in creating each day’s music log,” said Kingston.
Some of the artists featured on this station include Meghan Trainor, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Kelly Clarkson to name a few.
“i98.7 is the most powerful station in San Angelo with the largest broadcast area. The area extends from 40 miles north of Abilene, east to Ranger, southeast to Junction, west to Rankin and southwest to Sonora,” Kingston said.
DJs for i98.7, Elvis Duran and Lisa Paige, produce a different experience that revolves around current news involving celebrities, current events and sports.
“i98.7 differs in style, music and presentation from our other four stations, which include 97.5 KGKL-Country, 103.1 Kickin' Country, 96.5 The Rock, 96.0 KGKL-AM-Talk & Sports,“ Kingston said.
The formatting changed from KELI-FM, The Magic, to i98.7. The goal of the new station is to bring new energy by playing up and coming music instead of the classic music. This would appeal to younger listeners in San Angelo.
“Magic focused on older music from the 70's to the 90's. i98.7 focuses more on current hit songs,” Kingston noted. “We felt that a more contemporary music stance for this station was needed, thus the change.”
The schedule for the radio can be found below:
The morning show starts with Elvis Duran at 5 a.m. - 9 a.m. On the weekend, there are 98 minutes of non-stop music at 9 a.m. on the weekdays, and Pop Crush every evening.
Listeners can use any device by downloading the radio pup app, or on a computer at i987.com.
"We care about our listener experience so we play the shortest commercial time on our stations," said the Townsquare Media staff. "Like us on FB to get updates on celebrity news, local happenings and to win cash and prizes.

PermalinkI agree with the comment by 'CONCERNED CITIZEN." We already hear this same genre of music being played locally. Kinda of like our TV stations! Makes absolutely no sense! "SAME OLE SAME OLE"

PermalinkWhat's the point of that? Wouldn't you be better served identifying a need and filling it instead of just repeating what others are doing?
