This afternoon, at approximately 2:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to a single car crash on Adams and Shiloh due to a vehicle blocking the entrance ramp onto Loop 306.
According to Officer Brian Bylsma, the Silver Nissan Xterra collided with the barrier while attempting to merge onto the left lane and enter the Loop; he was the only occupant of the car.
The driver complained of shoulder pain and was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle. The driver will be issued a citation for an unsafe movement to the left and for driving with an invalid license.

What do you reckon was going through this fools mind just prior to this accident? I'd be willing to be it was his "CELLPHONE!" "TEXTING WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRIVING"

PermalinkDriver was operating a vehicle without a license? Wrecks the vehicle. Blocks traffic and an onramp to the loop. Probably doesn't have any auto insurance either - or at least not enough to cover the cost of repairing the barrier. I wonder if the driver has health insurance? Or are we going to have to pay for that hospital visit as well as the damages they caused to the barrier and the emergency services response?
Maybe we should up the penalty for driving without a license in San Angelo - 30 days mandatory jail time! Followed by 30 weekend nights, from 6 PM to 6 AM working as a janitor in the Shannon ER. Plus a report to the district court Judge that the offender has to write about their experience in jail and the ER. Then add in community service where they have to clean the highways around town for 6 months, working at least 20hours a week actually on the roads and medians picking up and bagging garbage.
Maybe then they would learn about the importance of paying attention to the road, and the need to have a license when driving.

PermalinkNot a terrible idea in theory. However.... The jail is already at capacity with other crimes. Can you think of any other ideas?

PermalinkThis person is basically a murderous, pedophilic, narco-warlord who likely did all of this deliberately just to be a drain and make Mountain Max late. Seeing as how Angelo is a retirement community, I understand how wasted time can be a big deal since plenty of Angeloans don't have much left. Why doesn't SAPD have any helicopters? Or fighter jets?
There should be a provision allowing for the use of tactical nukes on bad drivers placed in the city charter - just in case they become available for use by law enforcement in the future.

PermalinkMr. Hyde, what we do is put pressure on our County Commissioners and our City Council Members to find the funds needed to increase jail space. Either expand our current facility or build a new one somewhere else. The problem now is that our current system continues to release these offenders back into the community. Eventually they find their way right back into our jail system. Right now we just go around in circles and nothing is accompolished. At some point in time, the problem needs to be addressed/fixed, regardless of the cost! "NO BRAINER"

PermalinkAs I look at this wonderful photo of this accident scene and the fool who endangered my life, even though I wasn't even there, memories of past music dances in my head! I can't help but sing the words to the song "CHAIN GANG" written by the great, Sam Cooke! "(WELL, DON'T YOU KNOW) THAT'S THE SOUND OF THE MEN, WORKING ON THE CHAIN GANG" "ALL DAY LONG THEIR SAYING UH AH, UH AH, UH AH, UH AH, ALL DAY LONG THEY WORK SO HARD' TILL THE SUN IS GOING DOWN WORKING ON THE HIGHWAYS AND BYWAYS AND WEARING A FROWN, YOU HEAR THEM MOANING THEIR LIVES AWAY, THEN YOU HEAR SOMEBODY SAY, THAT'S THE SOUND OF THE MEN WORKING ON THE CHAIN GANG." PermalinkWhat is worse is that if this car were drivable, the police would let them drive off with a ticket in their hand. They give them a ticket and put them back on the road, I don't understand how that is legal.
