Abilene City Council Members Vote Against Texting and Driving Ban

The Abilene City Council voted against enacting a texting and driving ban within the city.

According to a local news agency in the Abilene area, the proposed ordinance, presented by Abilene Police Chief Stan Standrige, would have banned the practice of most written electronic communication while driving.

The wording of the ordinance did allow for the use of other mobile apps while driving.

However, Mayor Norm Archibald and Councilman Kyle McAlister were the only two votes in favor of enacting the ban.

In 2015, the San Angelo City Council approved a texting and driving ban ordinance that went into effect this year. Many cities across the U.S. and Texas have done the same.

I don't believe any City Government should be placing Ordinances in place that will not be enforced! The Texting and Driving Ban Ordinance is just one example. "BAN UNENFORCEABLE ORDINANCES"
