Donovan Guzman, 23, was arrested for assaulting two 14-year-old boys Friday afternoon. According to police, Guzman was given money by his girlfriend that the girlfriend intended to be given to her son and her son’s friend, both 14-years-old.
Guzman was driving with the two boys as passengers of his car when one of the teenagers asked for the mom’s money. Police said that according to the boys, Guzman and the boys argued in the car when Donovan refused.
During the argument, Guzman stopped the car, got out with the boys and Guzman proceeded to assault both, police said. One of the boys had the situational awareness to take the keys, get into the driver’s seat of Guzman’s car and drive away, leaving Guzman stranded and on foot.
At this point a call was made to 911 about a fight and officers arrived shortly thereafter.
A San Angelo Police Officer spotted Guzman walking near the intersection of 16th and Hudson Ave. When Guzman saw the officer, he ran and several officers pursued in lengthy foot chase. One officer was injured during the chase.
Guzman was booked on two counts of assault of a minor, one for each boy. During the arrest, Guzman complained of shortness of breath. “He knows the game,” one officer said. Guzman was transported to Shannon Medical Center under guard and will be booked after a medical checkup.
Guzman had outstanding warrants and earned an additional charge for drug paraphernalia found in his car.
