U.S. Stock Market Soars to Best Day Since 2008 After Trump Pauses Tariffs

NEW YORK — U.S. stocks had one of their best days in history on Wednesday after President Donald Trump put a 90-day pause on tariffs.

The S&P 500 soared 9.52% to settle at 5,456.90 for its biggest one-day gain in 17 years.

For the broad market index, it was the third-biggest gain since World War II ended.

“I have authorized a 90 day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately,”” Trump posted on Truth Social.

In the same post, Trump said he was raising the tariff on China again to 125%.

U.S. stocks are still below where they were a week ago when Trump announced the worldwide tariffs, and there could be more volatility ahead with the world’s two largest economies in a trade war.
