New Angelo State Brass Groups to Make First Public Performance

SAN ANGELO, TX - Angelo State University's Brass Ensembles program will present a public concert that includes the inaugural performances of two newly formed brass quintets Tuesday, April 8, at 7 p.m. in the Carr Education-Fine Arts Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

Titled "A Night of Brass," the concert will take place in the Carr EFA Building's Eldon Black Recital Hall and is free and open to the public. It will feature performances by the ASU Trombone Choir, ASU Trombone Quartet, ASU Tuba/Euphonium Quartet and the two new ASU brass quintets, "Quintessential" and "The Brass Factory."

The various ensembles will perform musical works from the Baroque, chamber music, western art music and contemporary styles by such composers as John Cheetham, Victor Ewald, Gustav Holst, Felix Mendelssohn, Samuel Scheidt and Daniel Speer.

Quintessential and The Brass Factory, featuring trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba, perform the finest repertoire in brass chamber music. The ASU Trombone Choir is a larger ensemble featuring instruments of the trombone family. The ASU Trombone Quartet and ASU Tuba/Euphonium Quartet are the premier ensembles of the ASU Low Brass Studio.

The Brass Ensembles are directed by Dr. John Irish and Dr. JD Handshoe of the ASU music faculty.
