Former San Angelo ISD Superintendent Carol Ann Bonds Dies at 77

SAN ANGELO, TX — Former San Angelo ISD Superintendent Dr. Carol Ann Bonds died at her home Saturday, March 8, 2025. She was 77.

Bonds' kindness and enthusiasm were two of her defining characteristics during nearly nine years leading SAISD before her retirement in 2015.

She was named the Region XV Superintendent of the Year in 2010 and the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2015.

Bonds was born in Jackson, Mississippi, as the oldest of three children.

After high school, she graduated from Houston Baptist University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in English and elementary education.

She earned her master’s degree in reading from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor. She completed her Ph.D in public school leadership from the University of Texas.

Bonds taught for 11 years before moving into administration as a principal in Rogers, where she was named Principal of the Year by the Texas Elementary Principals Association in 1995.

She then worked as a superintendent in Livingston, where she was one of five finalists for the Texas Superintendent of the Year Award in 2001.

In 2015, Governor Greg Abbott appointed her Bonds to the Texas Military Preparedness Commission. She also served on the Air Force Chief of Staff’s Civic Leader Program, and Air Education Training and Command Program.
