AMARILLO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) conducted a traffic stop Friday on IH-40, yielding over 25 pounds of marijuana valued at over $155,000.
At approximately 6:20 p.m., a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Dodge Charger passenger car traveling eastbound on IH-40, for a traffic violation, near Vega in Oldham County.
The driver of the Charger was identified as Hugh Harrington McCooty, 22, of Parkland, Fla. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered 24 vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana in the trunk.
McCooty was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana over five pounds but less than fifty, a third-degree felony, and booked into the Oldham County Jail. The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from San Jose, Calif., to Parkland, Fla.
