SAN ANGELO, Texas — The San Angelo City Council on Tuesday approved a $1.32 million contract for renovations at the Bill Aylor Sr. Memorial River Stage, authorizing the city manager to negotiate and execute the agreement.
The contract includes Phase One renovations such as a storage and dressing room addition, expanded green room, a production office, a new loading dock, and an expansion of the box office and concession building. The project also includes ADA modifications to restrooms and walkways, new ramps, relocated fencing for accessibility, and additional hillside seating.
Construction Manager Al Torres told the council the contract could be finalized by April 1, with work expected to take about six months. He added that construction will be coordinated to avoid disruptions to scheduled events, including the Pops Concert.
Councilman Larry Miller raised concerns about restroom accessibility, specifically outdated entrances that make it difficult for individuals using wheelchairs or walkers. Torres said the project includes two new restroom facilities—one at the stage level and another at the ticketing and concession level—to improve accessibility.
Torres said the design work for Phase Two is expected to be presented to the council in the next few meetings, with funding and construction details to be determined after the design phase is completed.
