Safari Club International’s 11th Annual San Angelo Chapter Event Breaks Records and Showcases Community Impact

SAN ANGELO, TX — The 11th Annual San Angelo Chapter of Safari Club International (SASCI) event on Saturday evening marked a historic moment for the organization, with record-breaking attendance and donations. The event, hosted at the First Financial Pavilion at the San Angelo Fairgrounds, was a dazzling display of generosity, excitement, and community spirit. According to chapter board members, the evening exceeded expectations, raising a remarkable amount of funds to further the organization’s mission.

Attendees enjoyed an action-packed evening filled with live and silent auctions, a steak dinner, a wide array of vendors, and a spirit of camaraderie. The air was filled with laughter, and the auction tables featured everything from hunting trips to unique outdoor gear. But beyond the celebrations, the event was also a moment to reflect on the powerful work Safari Club International does both globally and locally.

The Mission of Safari Club International

Founded in 1972, Safari Club International (SCI) is one of the world’s largest and most influential organizations dedicated to conservation, education, and hunting. The organization operates with the core mission to protect hunters’ rights, promote sustainable wildlife conservation, and ensure the future of hunting through ethical practices. With members spanning across 50 countries, SCI has become a voice for wildlife conservation and education, advocating for the protection of both species and habitats around the world.

SCI’s efforts extend far beyond the United States, working with governments, conservation groups, and local communities to safeguard biodiversity and natural resources. As a strong advocate for responsible hunting, SCI also plays a critical role in education, providing grants and support for conservation efforts and youth programs that help cultivate a new generation of wildlife conservationists and ethical hunters.

Highlighting the Blue Bag Program and Its Global Impact

During the event, SASCI members highlighted the Blue Bag Program, a unique initiative that ties together hunters’ passion for the outdoors with the support of children in communities around the world. The Blue Bag Program encourages hunters to bring essential items—ranging from school supplies to clothing—to children in the areas they hunt. It’s a simple yet impactful way to give back to communities in need. The program has grown over the years, and its reach now spans across the globe, with hunters contributing much-needed goods to children in regions where hunting expeditions take place. Locally, the program also reaches out to children here at home, fostering a sense of global empathy and community connection.

“The Blue Bag Program is just one of the ways our members are making a tangible difference in the lives of children,” said a representative from the SASCI chapter. “It’s a way to share the spirit of giving while honoring the traditions of hunting and conservation.”

The SASCI Pathfinder Youth Award Program: Fostering Resilience in the Next Generation

Another emotional highlight of the evening was the presentation of the SASCI Pathfinder Youth Award. In its fifth year, the award recognizes young individuals who demonstrate exceptional resilience in the face of personal challenges. This year’s participants—Hayzen Smith, Hailey Welch, and Whiskey Wright—were all given the opportunity to participate in guided hunting experiences, a prize that not only rewards their bravery but also offers them a chance to connect with nature and engage in an empowering, therapeutic activity.

Hayzen Smith, born with Spina Bifida, has faced physical challenges his entire life but continues to push forward with a spirit of resilience. Hailey Welch, who battles Infantile Parkinsonism-Dystonia, and Whiskey Wright, who is courageously fighting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, are also overcoming significant health challenges. For all three young participants, the hunting experiences were an opportunity to embrace their courage and celebrate their strength.

“These young people inspire us all,” said SASCI President Alan McClain. “Their determination in the face of adversity is a testament to the power of community and the importance of empowering the next generation.”

Donations and Contributions for 2024

The San Angelo Chapter of Safari Club International has long been known for its charitable spirit. The organization has made significant contributions to various local and global causes over the years, and the 2024 donations are no exception. This year, the following organizations received support totaling $268,000:

  • Texas Tech Skeet Club

Each contribution is an investment in the future of hunting, conservation, and community development. To date, the SACSCI has donated over $1.5 million to worthy charities.

Looking Ahead

As the San Angelo Chapter of Safari Club International continues to grow and thrive, its focus remains on supporting ethical hunting, conservation efforts, and youth programs. The chapter’s record-breaking success this year is a reminder of the incredible impact of collective action and generosity. As attendees left the event on Saturday night, it was clear that the future of hunting, conservation, and community giving is in good hands.

The San Angelo chapter is already looking forward to next year’s event, with high hopes of once again breaking records and continuing to inspire both seasoned hunters and the next generation of leaders.
