SAN ANGELO, TX — The 11th Annual San Angelo Chapter of Safari Club International (SASCI) event on Saturday evening marked a historic moment for the organization, with record-breaking attendance and donations. The event, hosted at the First Financial Pavilion at the San Angelo Fairgrounds, was a dazzling display of generosity, excitement, and community spirit. According to chapter board members, the evening exceeded expectations, raising a remarkable amount of funds to further the organization’s mission.
Attendees enjoyed an action-packed evening filled with live and silent auctions, a steak dinner, a wide array of vendors, and a spirit of camaraderie. The air was filled with laughter, and the auction tables featured everything from hunting trips to unique outdoor gear. The SASCI Pathfinder Youth Award Program: Fostering Resilience in the Next Generation

In its fifth year, the award recognizes young individuals who demonstrate exceptional resilience in the face of personal challenges. This year’s participants—Hayzen Smith, Hailey Welch, and Whiskey Wright—were all given the opportunity to participate in guided hunting experiences, a prize that not only rewards their bravery but also offers them a chance to connect with nature and engage in an empowering, therapeutic activity.
Hayzen Smith, born with Spina Bifida, has faced physical challenges his entire life but continues to push forward with a spirit of resilience. Hailey Welch, who battles Infantile Parkinsonism-Dystonia, and Whiskey Wright, who is courageously fighting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, are also overcoming significant health challenges. For all three young participants, the hunting experiences were an opportunity to embrace their courage and celebrate their strength.
“These young people inspire us all,” said SASCI President Alan McClain. “Their determination in the face of adversity is a testament to the power of community and the importance of empowering the next generation.”
