SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo man has been indicted for robbery after assaulting a woman and stealing her cell phone.
Dalton Franklin, 31, of San Angelo, has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for robbery, assault of a family member, and burglary of a habitation.
According to court documents, San Angelo police met with the victim on Aug. 27, 2024, who stated she was having issued with the defendant, identified as Franklin. The victim said that Franklin had assaulted her earlier that same day.
The victim said that she and Franklin had been living together for three years and were in a relationship, but it had deteriorated over time. On Aug. 20, 2024, Franklin had allegedly moved out of the victim’s residence. The victim did not believe Franklin had a key to the residence when he moved out.
On Aug. 27, the victim was at her residence when Franklin entered her home through the back door using a key. She said she was in fear for her safety and stated that Franklin had grabbed her from behind and squeezed her, causing pain. The victim was able to free herself from Franklin who had begun chasing her. Franklin caught the victim and took her cell phone from her.
A San Angelo police sergeant was with the victim while Franklin was communicating with her. The officer learned that Franklin was going to place the phone on the front porch of a residence on the 400 block of Baker Street. Another officer went to Baker Street to retrieve the cell phone and returned the stolen property to the victim.
Franklin was arrested on Aug. 27, 2024, and was released on Aug. 30, 2024, on $17,500 bond. He was arrested again Oct. 1, 2024, for an offense that occurred on June 7, 2024. He was released the same day on $50,000 bond.
A jury trial has been set for June 16, 2025.
Franklin also took a plea deal in 2022 for assault of a family member.
