Angelo State Rams Rally to Save Season, Reach LSC Tournament

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State University men's basketball team defeated UT Permian Basin 74-67 on Thursday at the Junell Center to punch its ticket to next week's Lone Star Conference Tournament in Frisco.

Down by 12 points at halftime, the Rams outscored the Falcons 53-34 in the second half to rally for the win.

ASU's season would have ended with a loss, but the Rams are now guaranteed at least one more game. UTPB (16-12 overall, 12-10 LSC) was knocked out of contention for a spot in the LSC Tournament.

Carvell Teasett and Shemar Smith each scored 20 points to lead ASU.

Sterling Gaston-Chapman turned in an all-around performance, scoring 12 points and leading the Rams with six rebounds, five assists and four steals.

ASU closed out the regular season with a 17-11 overall record and a 13-9 record in LSC play. The Rams’ next game will be in the LSC quarterfinals Friday, March 7, at the Comerica Center in Frisco, against an opponent still to be determined.
