Brownwood Football Coach Sammy Burnett Reassigned

 

BROWNWOOD, TX — Brownwood High School head football coach Sammy Burnett was reassigned Monday night after a 4-3 vote by the Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees.

Burnett was 51-31 in seven seasons with Brownwood, highlighted by a trip to the state quarterfinals in 2023.

The Lions were 6-5 last year and lost in the first round of the playoffs.

Burnett has a career record of 109-63 as a head coach.

Burnett was a 1988 graduate of Brownwood High School and played under legendary head coach Gordon Wood.

Brownwood has one of the most stories football programs in Texas with seven state titles, though the last one came in 1981.

The Lions had ups and downs under Burnett, including three losing seasons and three years with 10 or more wins.

Overall, he led the program to two district titles and seven playoff wins.
