SONORA, TX — Sonora High School’s Owen Jones committed to play football at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday.

Jones made the announcement with a post on X.

Jones, who stands 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, has been a first-team all-district tight end for the Broncos the last two years.

He was also a force on their defensive line with 65 tackles, eight tackles for loss and six sacks this past season.

Jones selected Mary Hardin-Baylor among three other offers from Sul Ross State, Howard Payne and Wayland Baptist.

Mary Hardin-Baylor, which is located in Belton, is home to one of the better NCAA Division III programs in the country.

The Crusaders went 9-3 and reached the national quarterfinals last year for the sixth time in program history.

They’ve won three national titles, most recently in 2021.
