SAN ANGELO, TX - Angelo State University will host the Friedrich Hayek Chair in Economics and Economic History at the American Institute for Economic Research, for a special guest presentation on February 12.
The presentation will feature Dr. Samuel Gregg, who will discuss the U.S. economy on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Mathematics-Computer Science (MCS) Building, 2200 Dena Drive.
Sponsored by the Texas Tech University Free Market Institute at Angelo State University, Gregg's presentation will take place in Room 100 of the MCS Building and is free and open to the public.
In his presentation based on his book, "The Next American Economy: Nation, State, and Markets in an Uncertain World," Gregg will discuss how America's economy is at a crossroads and how at stake is not only the future of the world's biggest economy, but the economic liberty that remains central to America's identity as a nation.
Gregg will also present his ideas on how managed decline and creeping statism do not have to be America's only choices for its economy. He insists there is an alternative: a vibrant market economy grounded on entrepreneurship, competition and trade openness that allows America as a sovereign nation to defend its interests in a dangerous world without compromising its belief in the power of economic freedom.
Holder of a doctorate in moral philosophy and political economy from Oxford University, Gregg has written and spoken extensively on questions of political economy, economic history, monetary theory and policy, and natural law theory. He is the author of 17 books and has also published in numerous respected journals, including Journal of Markets & Morality, Economic Affairs, Ethics and Public Policy, and Foreign Affairs. He also regularly contributes editorial pieces to such publications as the Wall Street Journal, Washington Times, Investor's Business Daily and National Review.
A member of the Royal Historical Society and Royal Economic Society, Gregg was awarded the 2024 Bradley Prize by the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation for his efforts to restore, strengthen and protect the principles and institutions of American exceptionalism.
