TLCA Quarterback Cris Castro Signs With University of Fort Lauderdale

SAN ANGELO, TX — TLCA quarterback Cris Castro signed to continue his football career at the next level Wednesday with the University of Fort Lauderdale.

Castro made it official during a signing ceremony in the TLCA gym with family, friends and teammates, and even coaches going back to his flag football days.

“I thought there wasn’t going to be another opportunity for me,” Castro said. “But I prayed about it, and two days later the coaches from the University of Fort Lauderdale saw me in person, and they liked what they saw at a showcase. I just give glory to God for giving me another opportunity to play football.”

Castro will be playing college football in a town that sits just north of Miami.

He said that sounds just fine to him.

“It’s kind of nervewracking, but it’s just something I’ve wanted to do since I was a little kid. I’ve always been a fan of Florida and the environment, and I’m just glad I get to be in my dream place playing football,” Castro said.

Castro was previously at San Angelo Central and Sterling City before moving back to San Angelo for his senior year.

TLCA head coach Bradley Oh said Castro was a talented leader for the Eagles in his short time there.

“He’s just an athletic cat with a live arm. He can sling it,” Oh said. “He’s a great leader and has the intangibles you want in a quarterback.”

Castro will be playing for a Fort Lauderdale team that went 4-5 last year. The school’s football program began in 2021.
