SAN ANGELO, TX - Angelo State University will host the first ASU Flute Day since 2020 featuring guest musician Dr. Adah Toland Jones, a professor of flute at Texas State University, on Saturday, Feb. 8, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.
High school flutists and flute enthusiasts of all ages are invited to participate or observe the ASU Flute Day activities, which will run from 12:30 - 6:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public.
Activities will include flute masterclasses, flute choir rehearsals, seminars about flute topics, a social, and a closing recital at 5:30 p.m. featuring the Flute Day Flute Choir joined by the ASU Flute Studio. Jones will lead the masterclasses and rehearsals, along with Dr. Constance Kelley, ASU professor of music/flute.
All flutists are encouraged to bring their flutes and whatever music they would like to perform in a masterclass.
Jones is also principal flute with the Austin Opera and Victoria Bach Festival Orchestra, and she plays frequently with the Austin Symphony. She has been active in the National Flute Association and is a flute choir specialist. She holds a Doctor of Arts degree from Ball State University.
Kelley has been a member of the ASU music faculty since 2007. She is also a founder and director of the Concho Valley Community Flute Choir and she directs the San Angelo Community Band. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
