SAN ANGELO, TX – A cold front is bringing cooler temperatures today, with highs in the mid-to-upper 70s following its passage early this morning.
Increased cloud cover and patchy morning fog are expected before skies become partly cloudy in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in San Angelo.
However, the cooldown will be short-lived, as temperatures are expected to surge well above normal starting Wednesday. Highs from Wednesday through Saturday will be 20 to 25 degrees above seasonal averages, with San Angelo and Abilene forecasted to reach the upper 80s. Some records dating back more than a century may be tied or broken.
San Angelo is expected to hit 87 degrees Thursday through Saturday, matching the 1999 record while Abilene could see 87 degrees on Friday, near the 1932 record of 86 degrees.
Another cold front will arrive late Saturday into Sunday, sending temperatures plummeting by more than 30 degrees. Highs on Sunday are forecasted to drop into the 50s.
