SAN ANGELO, TX – Unseasonably warm temperatures will dominate West Central Texas this week, with multiple days of record or near-record highs expected in San Angelo and Abilene, according to the National Weather Service.
San Angelo’s forecasted highs will reach the mid-80s, with Saturday’s expected 86 degrees coming close to the record of 87 set in 1999. Abilene could hit 88 degrees that same day, surpassing a record set in 1943. These temperatures are 20 to 25 degrees above normal, resembling conditions typical of April rather than early February.
According to the February outlook from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the region will experience above-normal temperatures and below-average precipitation. This pattern is expected to continue into spring, with summer bringing more normal rainfall levels but continued higher-than-average temperatures.
The extended forecast shows highs generally in the 80s across much of West Texas, with overnight lows ranging from the mid-40s to near 60 degrees. Breezy southerly winds and dry conditions will persist, raising concerns about fire weather.
