Pfluger Introduces Package of Bills to Strengthen Election Integrity

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) introduced a package of bills to strengthen election integrity and restore American confidence in our elections.

The package includes three bills prohibiting noncitizens from voting in D.C., preventing noncitizens from administering elections, and ensuring only citizens can vote in our elections.

"Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy, which is why protecting them from noncitizen influence is essential to our nation’s sovereignty and will ensure America has a flourishing democracy for decades to come," Congressman August Pfluger said. “The overwhelming foreign influence that took place in past elections clearly indicates that we must take protecting our elections from noncitizens more seriously. These bills are three common-sense steps we can take to ensure noncitizens are not influencing our elections by voting in them or administering them. We must safeguard the integrity of our electoral system, and these bills will work to do just that.”

The three bills in the package Rep. Pfluger introduced are:

  • A bill to prohibit non-citizens from voting in elections in D.C. and to repeal the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022. This bill follows a nearly unanimous vote by the D.C. City Council to advance a bill that would allow noncitizens to vote in local elections—even if they have only resided in D.C. for 30 days. Rep. Pfluger's bill is supported by Reps. Jodey Arrington (TX-19), Abraham Hamadeh (AZ-08), William Timmons (SC-04), Lauren Boebert (CO-04), Nancy Mace (SC-01), Jake Ellzey (TX-06), Byron Donalds (FL-19), Claudia Tenney (NY-24), Michael Guest (MS-03), and Derek Schmidt (KS-02).
  • No Foreign Persons Administering Our Elections Act, which would prohibit noncitizens from serving as election administrators for U.S. federal elections. This bill follows several accounts of noncitizens being sworn in to serve on election commissions throughout the country, even when they are not legally allowed to vote in the United States. Rep. Pfluger's bill is supported by Reps. Jodey Arrington (TX-19), Abraham Hamadeh (AZ-08), William Timmons (SC-04), Lauren Boebert (CO-04), Claudia Tenney (NY-24), and Michael Guest (MS-03).
  • An amendment to the U.S. Constitution to prohibit non-citizens from voting. This amendment is necessary because if someone is not a citizen, they do not have the right to vote in U.S. elections—period. Allowing noncitizens to vote in our elections puts the entire integrity of our system at risk. Rep. Pfluger's bill is supported by Reps. Jodey Arrington (TX-19), Abraham Hamadeh (AZ-08), William Timmons (SC-04), and Lauren Boebert (CO-04).
