TikTok Restores Service Following U.S. Ban Implementation

WASHINGTON - TikTok announced Sunday it is restoring its services in the United States after a ban briefly disrupted access to the platform for millions of users. The company credited the Trump administration for providing clarity and assurances to service providers amid the restrictions.

The ban, which took effect late Saturday, resulted in temporary unavailability for some users. By Sunday morning, Apple, Google, and Samsung stores began removing TikTok from their platforms. The platform’s parent company, ByteDance, faced a Supreme Court ruling on Friday, upholding national security concerns tied to user data and potential Chinese government influence.

“In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service,” the company said in a statement. “We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance… allowing over 170 million Americans and over 7 million small businesses to thrive.”

TikTok’s legal challenge to the ban, citing First Amendment grounds, failed at the Supreme Court last week. The court ruled unanimously that potential data manipulation posed risks, upholding Congress’s earlier bipartisan decision to sever TikTok’s ties with ByteDance.

On Truth Social, former President Donald Trump stated Sunday morning he would extend the deadline for enforcement to seek a deal securing national security and U.S. interests. Trump suggested the U.S. take a 50% ownership stake in a potential joint venture involving TikTok’s current and future ownership.
