Former Central QB Maverick McIvor Transferring from ACU to Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, KY — Former San Angelo Central star quarterback Maverick McIvor announced Monday he is transferring to Western Kentucky University.

McIvor led Abilene Christian University last year to its first-ever conference championship at the NCAA Division I FCS level.

He threw for 3,828 passing yards and 30 touchdowns with seven interceptions while completing 63% of his passes.

McIvor began the year by throwing for 506 yards in an overtime loss to Texas Tech, the school he originally signed with out of Central.

With one year of eligibility remaining after this past season, McIvor entered the transfer portal and was also offered by Wake Forest, North Texas and Miami (Ohio).

He settled on Western Kentucky, which went 8-6 last year. The Hilltoppers compete in Conference USA.

It has been a winding journey for McIvor, who began his high school career playing six-man football in Fort Davis.

He transferred to Central before his sophomore year and was a starting wide receiver.

After a breakout junior season at Central — in which he threw for 3,415 yards and 43 TDs, while rushing for 870 yards in 12 games — he was offered scholarships by more than 20 NCAA Division I schools.

He signed with Texas Tech but was injured in a preseason practice in 2019 and never saw game action.

McIvor finally returned to the field in 2022 after transferring to ACU.
