SAN ANGELO, TX - Dr. Katie Lyman, previously the dean of health occupations and healthcare simulation at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been appointed as the dean of Angelo State University's Archer College of Health and Human Services, effective April 1, 2025.
Lyman replaces the late Dr. Leslie Mayrand as the dean of the Archer College. As such, she will plan, organize and direct the college's six academic departments that include undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including three of Angelo State's doctoral programs, and certificates. She will also oversee curriculum development and compliance with all relevant accreditation standards.
"It is my honor to serve as the next dean of the Archer College of Health and Human Services," Lyman said. "I look forward to collaborating with the faculty, staff, students, and administrators to provide innovative curricula and experiences for our future healthcare providers. Thank you for inviting me to be a member of the Ram Fam!"
Dr. Don Topliff, ASU provost and vice president for academic affairs, announced Lyman's appointment.
"We are extremely excited to have Dr. Katie Lyman joining ASU as the next dean of the Archer College of Health and Human Services," Topliff said. "She brings a wealth of experience, particularly in accreditation of programs and universities, as well as a terrific record of teaching, research and service across the education spectrum. She has a history of working with the medical community and no doubt will be an asset to the medical community in San Angelo."
"I am confident that Dr. Lyman's vision and expertise will greatly benefit our students, faculty and programs as we continue to advance our mission of providing highly competitive graduates to the global marketplace."
During her tenure at Kirkwood Community College, Lyman managed a $1.2 million budget while overseeing a team of 10 directors, approximately 30 instructors and five simulation technicians through a variety of for-credit and non-credit programs. She also served three years as the chair of the Mental Health Summit.
Prior to joining Kirkwood Community College, Lyman served as an associate professor in the Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Science at North Dakota State University and department chair of emergency medical services at North Dakota State College of Science. Across both institutions, she demonstrated a strong commitment to academic leadership and program development.
Additionally, Lyman has been actively involved in the accreditation process, as well as in multiple professional organizations, including the National Association of Emergency Medical Services Educators, National Athletic Trainers' Association and Kinesio Taping Association International.
Lyman holds a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Central College Iowa, a master's degree in kinesiology from Michigan State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in higher education administration and curriculum and instruction design from the University of South Florida.
