A 50-Year-Old Big Spring Inmate Escapes Federal Prison Camp

At approximately 11:08 a.m. Sept. 14, officials from the Federal Prison Camp in Big Spring noticed inmate Armando Gallegos, 50, missing, said Chris Willoughby, public information officer for the Prison Camp.

At this time, law enforcement agencies in the area are asking people to keep a lookout for Gallegos, who is described as a 200-pound Hispanic male and stands at 5 feet 7 inches. Gallegos was originally sentenced to 140 months for Conspiracy to Possess with the Intent to Distribute 5,727.57 Kilograms of Marijuana in the Southern District of Texas on Nov. 10, 2014.

Willoughby stated that the U.S. Marshals Service and other law enforcement agencies were immediately notified after officials Gallegos’ disappearance, and an internal investigation is now underway.

The Big Spring Federal Prison Camp is minimum security facility that houses approximately 200 male offenders, Willoughby added.

If anyone has information about Gallegos or his whereabouts, they are asked to call the U.S. Marshals Service at (325) 672-2147.
