LAS VEGAS, NV — San Angelo’s Ty Harris tied with Stephenville’s Marty Yates for the top time of the night Thursday in tie-down roping at the National Finals Rodeo.
Each cowboy clocked a time of 7.3 seconds to share the win in Round 8 and earn $30,155 apiece.
It continued the remarkable run for San Angelo’s three ropers competing in the event as they have won four of the last six rounds.
Harris also won Round 3, while his brother, Joel, won Round 5, and Dylan Hancock won Round 7.
Ty Harris is still in fourth place in the overall standings with $307,141.88 in season earnings, but he made up considerable ground on third place. He trails Montana’s Haven Meged by less than $17,000 with two rounds left.
Joel Harris remains in fifth place in the overall standings after failing to cash Thursday. He was 13th in 10.9 seconds.
Hancock dropped a spot to seventh in the standings after an 11th-place showing in 9.9.
Denton’s Riley Webb moved closer to defending his world title by tying for fourth place with Decatur’s Tuf Cooper.
Webb now has $380,129.26, giving him a more than $23,000 lead over Clovis, New Mexico’s Shad Mayfield.
