WASHINGTON — Stanley has issued a recall for 2.6 million travel mugs sold in the United States following reports of burns caused by faulty lids.
The recall, announced Thursday, affects all Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs, including 12-, 16-, and 20-ounce versions, sold from June 2016 through December 2024.
According to federal regulators, the mugs’ screw-on lids can shrink when exposed to heat or torque, causing them to detach unexpectedly.
Stanley reported 91 incidents globally, 16 of which occurred in the U.S. Among those, 38 caused burns, with 11 severe enough to require medical attention.
Consumers can identify recalled mugs by the Stanley logo on the front and bottom of the mug. Specific product ID numbers, such as 20-01436 and 20-02033, can also help determine affected items.
Stanley advises consumers to stop using the mugs immediately and contact the company for a free replacement lid. Customers can call 866-792-5445 or visit www.stanley1913.com to submit a claim.
The recalled mugs, priced between $20 and $50, were sold through retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
