Police Service Dog Vader did his duty once more by alerting San Angelo Police Officers of the presence of contraband during a traffic stop earlier this week. As a result, two San Angelo residents are facing drug charges, said Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD.
Gonzalez said that on Monday, September 14, just before 10:00 p.m., San Angelo Police stopped a white 1993 Ford Expedition in the 700 block of E. 22nd Street for traffic violations.
Police identified the driver, Willie Lloyd, Jr, 57, and passenger, Aletha M. Rose, 51, during the stop. While conducting a records search, Police identified Rose as having an outstanding Tom Green County Arrest Warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Gonzalez added that Police K9 Supervisor Chris Cimino and Vader were called to the scene to assist. Vader conducted an open-air “sniff” of the vehicle and provided a positive alert for the presence of contraband.
“Officers then conducted a Probable Cause Search and located approximately 3.8 grams of suspected crack cocaine inside Lloyd’s pocket,” Gonzalez said. “The substance field-tested positive for the presence of cocaine. Police also located approximately 2.6 grams of marijuana from underneath the front passenger’s seat.”
SAPD issued Lloyd a citation for Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance, and he was charged with Felony 2 Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance. As for Rose, Police charged her with Class A Possession of Marijuana. Both suspects were transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident.
