SAN ANTONIO, TX – A 31-year-old mother of four was fatally shot in the head during a road rage incident on Interstate 35, causing her car to flip into a ditch, authorities said.
Julie Marie Butcher, of New Braunfels, was driving on the night of Nov. 8 when an argument with another driver, identified as Nicholas Hernandez, 24, escalated. Hernandez allegedly fired the fatal shot before fleeing the scene, according to local news reports. Butcher was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Hernandez’s actions following the shooting reportedly helped police link him to the crime. Investigators say he told multiple friends about the incident, some of whom provided text messages implicating him. One witness claimed Hernandez asked for help disposing of shell casings. Fifteen hours after the murder, Hernandez contacted San Antonio police to report a stolen handgun, a Beretta 9mm, which authorities believe was used in the shooting.
Hernandez was arrested and charged with murder. He is being held in the Bexar County Jail pending his first court appearance. Bond information was not immediately available.
Butcher was a general manager at Papa John’s in New Braunfels and is survived by her husband, Michael Butcher, and their four children: Hailey, Jaxson, Michael, and Kenneth. Her family expressed gratitude for the arrest, calling it a step toward justice during a difficult time.
A GoFundMe campaign organized by Butcher’s father, David Delgado, describes her as a devoted wife, mother, and friend. The campaign is raising funds to support her family.
