Richland Springs' Run Ended by Oglesby Again in State Quarterfinals

BELTON, TX — The No. 2-ranked Richland Springs Coyotes’ season ended Friday with a 60-46 loss to No. 3 Oglesby in the 1A Division II state quarterfinals.

It’s the second consecutive year Oglesby has knocked Richland Springs out of the playoffs, and the final score was nearly identical to last year’s 62-48 win.

Richland Springs led 24-22 after a kickoff return by Cohen Ethridge, but the Coyotes were largely held in check from that point.

Oglesby, led by a five-touchdown performance from reigning Player of the Year Kyler Fossett, had a 30-24 lead at end of the first quarter and a 46-30 advantage at halftime.

The Tigers extended their lead to 54-30 by the end of the third quarter, and they led by as much as 60-30 before a late Richland Springs comeback attempt.

Richland Springs will finish its season with a record of 12-1. Oglesby (11-2) moves on to the state semifinals against Iredell or Oakwood next week.
