Lost Hiker, Injured Climber Rescued in West Texas Parks Over Thanksgiving Break

EL PASO, TX - Officials in Texas conducted two search-and-rescue missions within the past 48 hours, saving a hiker lost for 24 hours in Big Bend Ranch State Park and an injured rock climber at Hueco Tanks State Park.

A female visitor, who had been lost for 24 hours, was located after an extensive multi-agency search at Big Bend Ranch State Park, the largest park in Texas spanning over 300,000 acres in Brewster and Presidio counties. Authorities said the search included the Texas State Park Police, El Paso Combined Search and Rescue, and El Paso County Search and Rescue teams.

In a separate incident, a rock climber with ankle and shoulder injuries was airlifted to a hospital from Hueco Tanks State Park near El Paso. The park is known for its historic petroglyphs and its rugged terrain in the Chihuahuan Desert.

These rescue missions occurred as Texans traveled to West Texas parks during the Thanksgiving holiday.
