CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – This GivingTuesday, the Texas State Aquarium aims to raise $10,000 for the Port Corpus Christi Center for Wildlife Rescue. Every donation made by December 3, 2024, will help rescue and rehabilitate wildlife in need. Contributions can be made online, in person, by phone, or by mail.
GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a global movement to inspire millions of people to jumpstart the season with generosity. Observed annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, this day provides nonprofits of all missions an opportunity to engage supporters and foster a strong community of advocates.
This GivingTuesday, the Texas State Aquarium announced the goal of raising $10,000.00 to directly support the Port Corpus Christi Center for Wildlife Rescue. The Center for Wildlife Rescue is the largest wildlife rescue center in Texas and home to Texas’ only wildlife CT scan machine. The state-of-the-art facility offers comprehensive care, from emergency surgeries to routine checkups for rehabilitating wildlife, including dolphins, river otters, manatees, and endangered sea turtles. Since 1995, the Aquarium has admitted over 8,700 animals with over 4,000 released back into their natural habitat. 2,855 of those animals were endangered species.
“The Center for Wildlife Rescue is a lifeline for Texas wildlife, giving vulnerable animals a second chance to thrive in their natural habitats," said Dr. Osbert Blow, Board Trustee at the Texas State Aquarium. “The Texas State Aquarium’s mission is not only to support wildlife conservation but also to educate and inspire our community to protect the incredible wildlife right in our backyard.”
In January of this year, the Center for Wildlife Rescue admitted and cared for over 300 cold-stunned green sea turtles impacted by sudden cold weather, many suffering from pneumonia. Donations made during GivingTuesday will directly support the Texas State Aquarium Wildlife Rescue team as they prepare for a potential response to another cold-stunned season.
Supporters can contribute in multiple ways—by donating online, in person, by phone, or by mail. Every contribution brings the Texas State Aquarium closer to reaching its $10,000 goal to support the Port Corpus Christi Center for Wildlife Rescue.
