City Council to Decide on Coliseum Name, Police Task Force, and Chicken Farm Revamp

SAN ANGELO, TX - San Angelo’s Coliseum could soon be renamed “CRC Roofers Coliseum” under a proposed two-year naming rights deal up for City Council approval on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

The council will also vote on forming a regional police task force to combat drug-related crime, alongside funding for infrastructure and community projects, including a $75,000 upgrade to the Chicken Farm Art Center.

The naming rights agreement with CRC Roofers, LLC, and Citywise Marketing, LLC would generate $20,000 annually, with $14,000 allocated to city programs and $6,000 to Citywise Marketing for event advertising. Directional signage and city documents would reflect the name “CRC Roofers Coliseum.”

The reason for the short term for this agreement is due to the anticipated and potential coliseum renovation and expansion project.

According to information from the city, the knowledge that interested parties are seeking a major renovation of the coliseum impacts any potential new naming rights agreement in three ways:

1. The possibility exists that sooner or later the coliseum could be closed for an extended period during renovations.
2. If the renovation is funded by large donors, naming rights could be something they would expect in return.
3. After renovation, if still up to be sold, the naming rights will bring a higher price.

Foster Communications elected not to renew the naming rights to the coliseum. Their agreement began in 2011 and ran through 2021, at which time they exercised the three-year extension offered in the original agreement.

Foster paid $20,000.00 per year for this right, through the city’s contracted vendor, Citywise Marketing.

The council will also consider a resolution to establish a Law Enforcement Mutual Aid Task Force between the San Angelo Police Department and Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office. The task force will focus on addressing drug-related crimes and improving regional collaboration. No additional funding is required, as existing staffing levels will support the initiative.

The Chicken Farm Art Center on Martin Luther King Blvd. is set for a $75,000 boost to improve its facade, address drainage issues, and add murals to enhance the cultural landmark’s appeal. This project, part of the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) program, has the unanimous backing of the TIRZ board.

Another $75,000 TIRZ project proposes upgrades to a vacant building at 323 W. 26th St., transforming it into a mixed-use retail and event space. Additionally, 109 S. Chadbourne St. could receive $52,105 in tax reimbursements over five years for renovations supported by $2 million in private investment.
