SAN ANGELO, TX — The third annual San Angelo Tamale Fest will kick off this Saturday, November 9, featuring local vendors, live music, and a tamale-eating contest at 125 West Twohig Ave.
The event is free to attend and begins at 11 a.m., with main activities starting around noon.
Four tamale vendors will participate this year, each competing for prizes in four categories: Best Traditional, Best Original, People’s Choice, and Judges’ Choice. To avoid last year’s shortage, each vendor plans to prepare at least 300 dozen tamales.
In addition to tamales, festival-goers can expect live performances, including impersonators of popular Latino artists like Vicente Fernandez, Bad Bunny, and Peso Pluma. A local student mariachi band from Lake View, Mariachi Los Caciques, will perform. Rita Cappuccino and Grupo Animo will close the festival.
New this year is a digital scavenger hunt with a grand prize of a $500 gift card from Cavender’s, offering attendees a chance to engage with vendors and win prizes by answering trivia questions at various booths.
While entry is free, attendees can purchase VIP passes for closer access to the stage, a swag bag with tamales, and other perks.
