Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for North-Central Tom Green and South-Central Coke Counties

 

SAN ANGELO, TX - The National Weather Service in San Angelo has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for north-central Tom Green County and south-central Coke County, effective until 8:15 p.m. CDT on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024.

The warning, issued just after 7:30 p.m., highlights the potential for hazardous weather conditions impacting areas around Water Valley, Carlsbad, and Grape Creek.

At around 7:30 p.m., radar detected a severe thunderstorm near Water Valley, moving east at 10 mph. The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to the size of quarters. Residents in the affected areas should be prepared for possible hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

The National Weather Service advises those in the warning area to take shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Frequent lightning and heavy rainfall are expected, posing a threat to travelers along Highway 87 between Carlsbad and Water Valley. The NWS reminds individuals that if they can hear thunder, they are close enough to be struck by lightning and should seek immediate shelter indoors.
