Bath and Body Works Pulls Controversial "Klandle" from Shelves

SAN ANGELO, TX — Bath & Body Works has discontinued a winter-themed candle named "Snowed In" after social media users drew comparisons between its design and Ku Klux Klan hoods. The candle featured a stylized paper snowflake that many found alarming, prompting a response from the company.

Following the backlash, which included comments labeling the product as a “klandle” and a “Klan Krismas Kandle,” Bath & Body Works removed the item from its website and retail locations. A spokesperson stated that the design was unintentional and apologized for any offense caused.

"At Bath and Body Works, we are committed to listening to our teams and customers and fixing any mistakes we make—even those that are unintentional like this one," the spokesperson said.

The candle’s controversial packaging was meant to depict a snowflake, with its design consisting of white, cone-shaped edges and holes near the center. Some customers criticized the design further, stating that it bore no resemblance to any snowflake they had seen.

Despite its removal from Bath & Body Works’ inventory, the candle has appeared on eBay, with one listing attempting to sell it for $180. Although eBay prohibits listings that include racist terms, the candle remains available since it is not explicitly described as such.

Bath & Body Works is now evaluating its design processes to prevent similar issues in the future.
