Wall Hawks Hold On For Win Over Monahans

WALL, TX — The Wall Hawks made a late defensive stand to preserve a 27-20 win over Monahans on Friday at Clayton Weishuhn Field.

Wall had a 20-0 lead late in the third quarter, but Monahans stormed back to make things interesting.

After scoring and recovering an onside kick with about two minutes to play, Monahans had a chance to tie or take the lead.

The Hawks' defense stood strong, however, to keep Monahans out of the end zone.

Wall linebacker Ethan Michalewicz had a team-high 14 tackles, while defensive end Brylan White had 10 tackles and a sack. Dylan Sellers had nine tackles.

Wall quarterback Landon York was 13-of-18 passing for 138 yards and three touchdowns.

Reid Robertson had five catches for 69 yards and two TDs, and Evan Boehle had three catches for 32 yards and a TD.

Thomas Leanos had 18 carries for 91 yards. Hagyn Barbee, who had 11 carries for 55 yards and a TD, had a 5-yard TD run to give Wall a 20-0 halftime lead.

Wall improved to 3-1, while Monahans fell to 1-3.

Wall will play again next week at Sweetwater, while Monahans will visit Andrews.
