TxDOT to Hold Meeting Wednesday About Improvements to FM 2288

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Texas Department of Transportation is considering improvements to FM 2288 from US Highway 67 to US Highway 87 between San Angelo and Grape Creek.

A public meeting will be held regarding those improvements at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the Concho Valley Multi-Modal Terminal Annex Building, 510 N. Chadbourne St.

The potential changes are intended to improve safety and mobility for all modes of traffic – vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle – along the 11.4-mile corridor. 

Proposed improvements include the full roadway reconstruction and widening from US 67 to north of Arden Road. This would allow for two through lanes for each direction, a two-way, left-turn lane or exclusive left turn lanes and right turn lanes where warranted. 

Other improvements include adding eight-foot-wide shoulders on both sides of the roadway, a continuous shared-use path along the east side of the corridor and traffic signals at the intersection with Arden Road.

Additionally, drainage improvements, the addition of a curb and gutter section for the Grape Creek area between US 87 and Old Sterling City Hwy #1, the widening of the existing bridge structure at the North Concho River, and a new bridge structure at Potts Creek are also proposed. 

The project is currently under schematic and environmental review with anticipated environmental clearance in February 2025. Although additional right of way would be required, no residential or non-residential structures are anticipated to be displaced at this time.
