San Angelo Police Address Threats at Central HS, Increase Security Presence

SAN ANGELO, TX - The San Angelo Police Department investigated a series of threats regarding Central High School, though authorities report no viable threat has been identified.

Police Chief Travis Griffith addressed the public late Wednesday, dispelling rumors circulating online about an armed suspect being arrested at the school.

“One statement that was made was about someone being tackled at Central that was maybe trying to do an active shooter situation and arrested with a gun — those are not true. That did not happen.” Griffith said.

The department continues to work with state counterparts as similar incidents have been noted across Texas. While no credible threat has been identified, additional law enforcement staff will be stationed at various schools as a precaution, he said.

“For peace of mind, and nothing more, we’re going to be putting extra staff into the schools tomorrow," Griffith said. "You’ll see additional police officers — possibly state, county — just popping in, checking in."

Griffith reassured parents that the department would continue to monitor the situation and take action if necessary, stating, “Right now, I want you to know that your kids are safe, and we’re going to be giving you that peace of mind.”

He added that if anyone has information please reach out to the department.

No arrests or incidents related to the threats have been reported.
