ABILENE, TX – An Abilene resident claimed a Mega Millions prize worth $1 million for a drawing held on Aug. 23.
The second-tier prize-winning ticket was purchased at DK #5, located at 2718 N. 1st St., in Abilene. The claimant elected to remain anonymous.
The winning Quick Pick ticket matched all five of the white ball numbers drawn (28-30-44-66-69), but not the Mega Ball number (2).
It was also announced that an $800 million jackpot-winning ticket for last night's Mega Millions drawing was sold in Sugar Land, Texas, just southwest of Houston. The jackpot has a cash value worth an estimated $401.8 million. This is the game’s seventh-biggest jackpot in its history and the second largest of 2024.
The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350, according to Mega Millions.
Mega Millions is played by choosing five numbers from a field of 70 and one Mega Ball number from the second field of 25 numbers.
To win the Mega Millions jackpot, players must match all six numbers drawn including the Mega Ball. Players matching fewer numbers may not win the jackpot, but could still walk away winners. Mega Millions currently offers a $20 million starting jackpot and a second-tier (Match 5+0) prize of $1 million.
By choosing the Megaplier feature for $1 more per play, players can multiply their non-jackpot winnings by two, three, four or five times, winning as much as $5 million. Drawings are broadcast each Tuesday and Friday at 10:12 p.m. CT.
